Me!
Aloha, I'm Billy; a network engineer living in paradise — not Hawaiian by blood, just a guy who found that life made more sense a little farther from the noise.
I’ve spent years in the trenches of enterprise and corporate network engineering — from configuring switching and routing infrastructure to automating tasks across large-scale device deployments. Naming a few, I’ve worked with Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, and Eaton UPS Devices (Primarily with the API), and I’ve written my own tooling to make them behave. I use Python with libraries like Paramiko and Netmiko to automate configs, validate outputs, and clean up what others leave messy.
I do not believe in bullshit; I hate liars... You do NOT get a second change; sorry!
I don’t buy into credentials for their own sake. I don’t chase certs or buzzwords. I chase understanding. I don’t care how it’s “supposed” to work. I care how it actually works when it’s 3 a.m. and something’s offline. I’ve seen enough bloated solutions to know that clarity is rare — and I try to bring it wherever I go.
I value independence. I question authority. I believe in limited government only because society has excepted government. I’ve spent time studying the Constitution, case law, and the creeping nature of compliance culture in modern society. This site — BillyGuthrie.com — isn’t just about networking. It’s about the person behind the keyboard. It’s a place for the things I’ve learned, the thoughts I don’t always say out loud, and the parts of this profession that can’t be captured in job titles or certifications. I’m not trying to market myself. I’m documenting what matters — the work, the code, the mindset, and the reason behind it all.
